A Precious Gentleman on Dock Four | Conversations in Alaska, 23 of 50

“You ladies are doing a great job holding that sign.”
Normally Brie and I would think that he was pandering but he was such a sweetie pie, with a slow gait and a classy hat donned.
We said “Where are you headed this morning?” as a courtesy. He told us he was walking downtown for now, I can’t remember what tour he was going on later.
I told him he could take the free shuttle. He said “How far is it?” I said “Well it’s about a 20 minute walk” (when I give time estimations, I always try to gauge their pace).
“So it will take me 40” he said with a smile.
He said “Do you girls have good groups today?” I think we both said “Pretty good” and smiled.
This was an unusual interaction for the dock because working on the dock is a lot like prostitution.
Everyone comes up to you in a rush and they want something. It’s very rare to simply have a polite conversation with someone who isn’t on your tour, and who doesn’t want to know how to get to their tour.

I bet this man could bust a move and make a lady swoon in his day. Heck, doesn’t his picture make you swoon a little? 🙂
